Advanced Medical Skills Course (AMSC)
The Advanced Medical Skills Course (AMSC) is a two-week, NATO-affiliated program designed for NSOCM-qualified and SOF Role 1 medical personnel, AMSC enhances advanced trauma and surgical-assist capabilities, focusing on Damage Control Surgery (DCS) and Damage Control Resuscitation (DCR) in austere, forward, and resource-constrained environments. The course emphasizes mastery of individual surgical-assist competencies within a defined scope of practice, integrating current Joint Trauma System (JTS) guidance, SOFCOM directives, and Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) standards.
Training combines focused didactic instruction, hands-on application on advanced patient models, and realistic operational scenarios, delivered in two instructional blocks at offsite locations. Graduates are prepared to support surgical teams, apply advanced resuscitative principles, and integrate into forward SOF medical operations, with the program’s limited size ensuring high instructor-to-student ratios and intensive skill development.
